Graffiti vandals hit Prospector train

Graffiti was sprayed along the side of the Prospector train at Kalgoorlie station.

A train driver has chased off graffiti vandals who struck the Prospector train while it was stationed at Kalgoorlie today.

Kalgoorlie Police sergeant Rhonda Copeland said the driver encountered two Caucasian men spray painting graffiti on the train's silver cladding as he conducted a routine check at 5.50am.

The Prospector was due to depart for Perth at 7.05am and had been at the Kalgoorlie platform overnight.

The driver said the two vandals were in their twenties, 170-175cm tall and both were medium build.

One of the offenders wore a black jumper, and the other a red hooded jumper with light grey track pants.

The driver chased the pair but was unable to catch them.

Police are trying to identify the vandals by matching their descriptions to a graffiti database.

As there is no video surveillance at the station, anybody with relevant information should call Kalgoorlie Police Station on 9021 9777.

The Prospector operates daily between Perth and Kalgoorlie. Standard features include personal music channels, new release movies and power points for laptop computers, phone and fax.

The WA Government's public transport website says the train is "more than just a rail journey - it is a travel experience".
